Day 7 2013: the long walk home

Another 20kms before a bus, hot showers and clean clothes

After a good start to the day, the long walk starts to take its toll on climbers.  Driven by a cold beer, a hot shower and some clean clothes, everyone makes it back to the African Tulip hotel safely.

15 hours of walking - an amazing experience!

After a grueling 9 hour uphill climb, with only half the oxygen levels available to that of sea level, all climbers that started from base camp reached Uhuru peak - 5,895 m above sea level. With only another 6 hours of walking down to go.

We woke this morning (Sunday) at Third Caves Camp, 3936m, to a crisp -9 degrees… very cold indeed!
