Seven community-minded staff from Commander Centre Sydney East spent their Monday prior to Australia Day volunteering at the Baulkham Hills NSW home of three disabled men, through charitable organisation House With No Steps – one of Australia’s leading providers of disability services dedicated to ensuring people with a disability have greater choice, control and freedom.

After a number of visits to Bunnings and back, a little problem solving, and a lot of team work, our enthusiastic volunteers got through a long list of household jobs ranging from fixing kitchen cabinet doors, to planting, weeding, gardening and pruning. In just one day, our seven volunteers made a huge difference to the home and living space of three men, and they all agreed that the opportunity to lend a hand to someone in need felt really, really good.

While many others enjoyed a nice long weekend, our volunteers rolled up their sleeves to lend much needed support and what's more they experienced how good it feels to give back.
